Why Certain Specimens Need Hiding Areas, Caves and Shelters
Some fishes nd invertebrates are shy and reclusive by nature, and can be challenged
and threatened by more dominant species. The resulting ongoing stress can be very detrimental to the health of those animals. Other reasons why fishes may seek shelter
is to rest in a protected area, escape bright light, or to breed and spawn.
KORDONS Eco-Logs™ are one way to provide your aquatic specimens with the type of sheltering caves, hollows, nooks and crannies they would fins in their native environment. Most aquarium fishes benefit from protective hiding places. Sheltering areas can be made by installing Eco-Logs™ in a variety of positions, stacking them where desired, tilting a clean piece of slate at an angle against the aquarium back or side, or by using them with non-toxic rocks used as ends or bases. Don't forget that some fishes and invertebrates like horizontal resting shelves at various levels. Do not use rocks or wood out of your yard or picked up on hikes...they may contain toxic substances or heavy metals that can leach out into the water, harming your fishes, over a period of time. When in doubt about the habitat most suitable for the continued health, growth or reproduction of your specimens, consult the experts at a pet/aquarium specialty store near you
